In addition, there's a very rare and unusual voice type called countertenor that is falsetto-dominated.
Within each voice category are many variations in weight and tone. Also an individual may be able to sing well outside the normal range for his voice type. A baritone, for example, may be able to sing into both the tenor and bass ranges. But a person's voice type is an indication of where their voice sits most naturally and where they feel most comfortable singing. It also type on the repertoire that is most appropriate for them.
