Frank Macfarlane Burnet

Frank Burnet was an Australian physician and virologist who shared the 1970 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine with Peter Medawar for his suggestion that the ability of organisms to form antibodies in response to foreign tissues was acquired and not inborn. Medawar followed up the suggestion and performed successful skin transplants in mice.
