Gerald Edelman

Gerald Edelman was an American molecular biochemist who shared with the British biochemist Rodney Porter (1917–1985) the 1972 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his work in establishing the chemical structure of the antibody gamma globulin. The determination of the structure of gamma globulin was essential to research on how antibodies function in the immune system.
