silt

Silt is a soil composed of particles whose diameters range from 1/256 to 1/6 mm. Soil containing over 80% silt particles and less 12% clay particles is often termed silt. In particular, loess, accumulation of wind-blown dust, has particles of silt-size in the range 1/32 to 1/16 millimeters.
