ventral

In humans, ventral means relating to, situated at, or close to the front of the body or to the anterior part of an organ. In most animals or plants, ventral refers to that part of an organism that normally faces the ground. In plants, the ventral surface of a leaf is the under surface (which usually faces away from the light). In fish, the ventral fin is the fin pointing downward. In four-legged animals, it is the lower or under surface.
