appendix
In some mammals, a finger-shaped organ, about
10 cm (4 in) long, located near the junction of the small
intestine and large intestine,
usually in the right part of the abdomen.
The appendix has no known function in humans but can become inflamed and
infected, a condition known as appendicitis.
