Bailey, Liberty Hyde (1858–1954)
American botanist who helped establish horticulture as an applied science
through the systematic study of cultivated plants. His worked had an important
influence on the development of genetics
and plant pathology. He founded and directed the Bailey Hortorium at Cornell
