Brown, Robert (1773–1858)
Scottish botanist who first observed Brownian
motion (1827) and who identified and named the plant
cell nucleus. In 1801 he joined an expedition to sail around Australia
on HMS Investigator. During this voyage he collected thousands
of plant specimens many of which were new to European naturalists.
