back

The area between the shoulders and the buttocks. The back is supported by the spinal column, which is bound together by ligaments and supported by muscles that also control posture and movement.

There are many disorders of the back arising from a number of causes affecting the spine. They include disorders of bones, muscles, ligaments, tendons, nerves, and joints in the spine, and can cause back pain, especially lower back pain.
