bioelectricity

Electricity generated in plants and animals. In animals bioelectricity is associated with nerve impulses and muscle contractions. Different electric potentials are built up within the organism by the process of ionic separation across a membrane. Some fish have electric organs that create more powerful external currents for sensing or to stun prey.
