In alternative medicine, the use of monitoring systems that provide changing information about body processes to enable them to be controlled voluntarily. By observing data on events which are normally involuntary, such as breathing and heart beat, many people learn to gain control over them to some extent in order to improve well-being. The technique has proved helpful in number of conditions, including headaches and high blood pressure (hypertension).
