    Committee on Contamination by Extraterrestrial Exploration

    A committee set up in 1958 by the International Council of Scientific Unions (ICSU) to evaluate the issue of possible contamination by spacecraft, first raised by Lederberg, and to develop recommendations about quarantine procedures. The standards proposed by the Committee were adopted by the ICSU in October 1958.1, 2
