coenocyte

A coenocyte is a type of cell that has many nuclei. Coenocytes occur when only the nucleus of a cell divides repeatedly, without division of the whole cell or cell wall. The fibers of striated muscle, for example, are made up of such cells, giving a type of tissue called syncytium. Coenocytes are also found in some algae and fungi.
