The Dominion Astrophysical Observatory (DAO) is an optical observatory, founded in 1917, operated by the Herzberg Institute of Astrophysics, and located in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Its main instrument is the 72-inch (1.85-meter) Plaskett reflector, named after the observatory's first director, John Plaskett and equipped with a new mirror in 1974. The DAO also houses the 1.22-meter McKellar reflector, inaugurated in 1962, and the Canadian Astronomy Data Centre.
