Dembowska (minor planet 349)
An asteroid that is very red in color and
of a unique type (R); it was discovered in 1892 by the French astronomer
August Charlois. Dembowska is highly irregular in shape, spins around 5
times a day, and has a surface made up largely of the bright green mineral,
olivine. Its composition seems closely to
match that of the pyroxene-olivine achondrite
meteorites.
