Edelman, Gerald Maurice (1929–)
American molecular biochemist who shared with the British biochemist Rodney
Porter (1917–1985) the 1972 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine
for his work in establishing the chemical structure of the antibody gamma
globulin. The determination of the structure of gamma globulin was essential
to research on how antibodies function in the immune
