elephantiasisA disease in which there is massive swelling and hypertrophy of the skin and subcutaneous tissue of the legs or scrotum, due to the obstructed flow of lymph. This may be a congenital disease, due to trauma, cancer, or infection with filariasis, tuberculosis, and some venereal diseases. Recurrent secondary bacterial infections are common and chronic skin ulcers may form.
