gentian violet



Methylrosanilide chloride, a green powder used in aqueous solution (violet) as an antiseptic and medicinal fungicide, and against intestinal worms. Gentian violet, so named because in solution it has the color of gentian flowers, is also the primary agent used in Gram's stain test.
