goblet cell
A type of secretory cell found in the epithelium of the respiratory, intestinal (scattered among the absorptive cells of the small intestine and colon), and reproductive tracts. The name "goblet" refers to the cell's shape, narrow at the base and bulging apically. Goblet cells secrete the principal constituents of mucus.
