hydrazone





A compound formed by the reaction between hydrazine (N2H4) and an aldehyde or ketone. Hydrazones are condensation products containing the group =C=NNH2. They are used in qualitative analysis to identify aldehydes and ketones. In practice, the phenylhydrazine is generally employed as the analytical reagent.
