hyperbaric chamber

A hyperbaric chamber is a sealed chamber built to withstand and be kept at pressures above atmospheric; it is used in the treatment of certain conditions. The high oxygen pressures achieved in them may destroy the anaerobic bacteria (Clostridia) responsible for gas gangrene; surgery may be done in the chamber. It is also used for aeroembolism in decompression and in the treatment of carbon monoxide poisoning.
