iridescence




iridescent soap bubble
The production of colors of varied hue by interference of light reflected from front and back of thin films (as in soap bubbles) or from faults and boundaries within crystalline solids such as mica or with opal. The colors of mother-of-pearl and some insects are due to iridescence.
