    orbit decay

    A gradual change in the orbit of a spacecraft caused by aerodynamic drag of a planet’s outer atmosphere and other forces. The rate of orbit decay rises as the spacecraft falls and encounters increasing atmospheric density, eventually resulting in reentry.
