peculiar star



A star whose spectrum has unusual features compared with the majority stars of its spectral type; "p" is appended to the spectral type to show this. The term is most often used to describe stars between spectral types B5 and F5, known as Bp stars, Ap stars, and Fp stars, whose spectra provides evidence of chemical anomalies.
