The preparation or dispensing of drugs and pharmacological substances used in medicine; also, the place where this is practiced. Most drugs are now formulated by drug companies and the pharmacist need now only measure them out and instruct the patient in their use. In the past, however, the pharmacist mixed numerous basic substances to produce a variety of medicines, tonics, etc.
