    phenotype

The appearance of, and characteristics actually present in an organism, as contrasted with its genotype (its genetic makeup). Heterozygotes (see heterozygous) and homozygotes (see homozygous) with a dominantgene have the same phenotype but differing genotypes. Organisms may also have an identical genotype but differing phenotype due to environmental differences.
