pivot joint: atlanto-axial joint
A pivot joint: the atlanto-axial joint
A type of synovial joint in which there is a central bony point surrounded by a bony-ligamentous ring. In this type of joint, rotation is the only movement possible. The atlanto-axial and superior radioulnar joints are good examples.
