plasmodesmata



Extremely fine cytoplasmic threads, one to a few tenths of a micrometer wide, which pass through the walls of living plant cells and connect the cytoplasm of adjacent cells. Plasmodesmata (singular: plasmodesma) may be scattered, or grouped in the membrane of pits.
