  1. In botany, a plumule is the portion of a seedling stem (epicotyl) of a seed plant above the cotyledon, together with the two young leaves.

  2. In zoology, a plumule is a down feather. Plumules are the temporary feathers of nestling birds, which persist in some adult birds between contour feathers. They lack barbules.
