presolar grain
Microscopic grains of matter which existed in the interstellar cloud from which the Sun formed. They survived the collapse of the solar nebula and also the subsequent formation of planetesimals because they consist of refractory minerals. Presolar grains are found in the fine-grained matrix of primitive meteorites.
