producer gas



A fuel gas made by partial combustion of coal or coke in mixed air and steam. It contains carbon monoxide, hydrogen, methane, and incombustible nitrogen and carbon dioxide. It has a low calorific value, 5 MJ/m3, but being easy to make it is used in large furnaces.
