scurvy



Vitamin C deficiency, involving disease of the skin and mucous membranes, poor healing, and anemia; in infancy bone growth is also impaired. Scurvy may develop over a few months of low dietary vitamin C, beginning with malaise and weakness. Skin bleeding around hair follicles is characteristics, as are swollen, bleeding gums. Treatment and prevention consist of adequate dietary vitamin C.
