spermatophyte

A spermatophyte, traditionally, is a member of the division of seed-bearing plants (Spermatophyta), including most trees, shrubs, and herbaceous plants. A spermatophye has a stem, leaves, roots, and well-developed vascular system. The dominant generation is the sporophyte. The widely accepted Five Kingdoms classification now classifies seed plants as several distinct phyla: the Angiospermophyta (angiosperms, flowering plants), Coniferophyta (conifers), Ginkgophyta (ginkgo or maidenhair tree), Cycadophyta (cycads), and Gnetophyta (a group of cone-bearing desert plants).
