    spores

    Single-celled bodies which result from meiosis. Spores, which may be produced by bacteria, fungus, or plants, are haploid reproductive cells which grow into new individuals without fusion with another cell. Bacterial spores, in particular, can survive exposure to a variety of extreme conditions.
