sublime (or sublimate)



To change directly from a solid to a gas without passing through a liquid phase. Dry ice (solid carbon dioxide) sublimes from the solid phase directly to the gaseous phase. Most substances can sublimate at certain pressures, but usually not at atmospheric pressure.
