A thiosulfate isa salt containing the ion S2O32–,
usually prepared by dissolving sulfur in
an aqueous sulfite solution. Thiosulfates
are mild reducing agents, and form ligand complexes; in acid solution they decompose
to give sulfur and sulfur dioxide.
