    Walker, Joseph Albert (1921-1966)

    Joseph Walker
    Chief research pilot at the Flight Research Center who set a world altitude record of 108 km (354,000 ft.) in the X-15 rocket plane on Aug. 22, 1963. He later tested the Lunar Landing Research Vehicle (LLRV). Walker was killed when his F-104 collided with an XB-70 bomber, with which he was flying in formation.
