wire chamber




A device used for detecting charged subatomic particles, The basic principle is to collect electrons released when a charged particle ionizes a gas, on an electrified grid of wires. A number of varieties of wire chamber have been developed including multiwire proportional counters, drift chambers, and Geiger tube.
