Ginkgos flourished throughout the world during the Mesozoic era (245–274 million years ago). The only surviving species is Ginkgo biloba. It has fan-shaped leaves, small, foul-smelling fruits and edible, nut-like seeds. Height: to 30 meters (100 feet).
