sedimentation

Sedimentation is any process or processes that deposit rock-forming materials. The materials deposited are continental in origin, the debris of landforms worn down and carried off by wind, water, or ice. Whenever the flow of the transporting medium is interrupted or diverted, the carried material is deposited either on land (in desert, lake, or river bed), or on coasts, or as marine sediments.
