loudness

Loudness is the magnitude of the sensation produced when the human ear responds to a sound, i.e., the subjective response to a sound level. There is no simple relationship between loudness and the intensity of sound; the response of the ear also depends to a certain extent on the frequency. Compare with amplitude.
