bulbil

A small bulb-like structure that grows on a plant. Bulbils may develop above the ground at the base of a plant or on stems from an axillary bud, or they form instead of flowers (as with some onions). Bulbils that become detached and fall to the ground can develop into new plants, and so function as a method of asexual reproduction.
