Cerulli, Vincenzo (1859–1927)

Vincenzo Cerulli
Italian astronomer who was among the earliest to argue that the martian "canals" were an illusion created by the eye's tendency to link together discrete points and give the appearance of lines. In this view, he was opposed by Schiaparelli but supported by Comas Solá, Antoniadi, and others.
