Cerulli, Vincenzo (1859–1927)
Italian astronomer who was among the earliest to argue that the martian
"canals" were an illusion created by the eye's tendency to link together
discrete points and give the appearance of lines. In this view, he was opposed
by Schiaparelli but supported by Comas
Solá, Antoniadi, and others.
