constipation

A disease in the frequency of bowel actions from the norm for an individual; also increased hardness of stool. Constipation is often precipitated by inactivity, or changed diet or environment, although it can also be caused by gastrointestinal tract disease. Increased dietary fiber, and taking of fecal softeners or intestinal irritants are usual remedies; enema may be required in some cases.
