Hugo de Vries

Hugo de Vries was a Dutch botanist. His experimental methods led to the rediscovery (1900) of Gregor Mendel's laws of heredity and the development of a theory of mutation. In his work The Mutation Theory (1901–1903), de Vries argued that genetic mutation was the chief engine of evolution.
