The endothelium is a single layer of smooth, flattened cells lining the heart, blood vessels, and lymph vessels. Endothelium is made up of endothelial cells. It is derived from embryonic mesoderm. The corneal endothelium is the innermost layer of the cornea. Compare with epithelium.
