Lem, Stanislaw (1921–2006)
Polish physician who turned to science fiction writing in about 1950 and
explored in depth the possible nature of extraterrestrial intelligence.
He suggested that we may have no common ground with alien races and that
any signals we receive from them may prove meaningless. This was the central
theme of his novel Solaris.
