Lindsay, David (1878-1945)
Scottish-born writer of fantasy whose first novel, A Voyage to Arcturus (1920), is a deep, metaphysical quest in an extraterrestrial setting. His description and characterization of the aliens of Tormance – a fictitious world circling Arcturus – is peripheral to the main journey of inner discovery. Nevertheless, Lindsay conjures up powerful images of novel senses and anatomies. C. S. Lewis is among those who have acknowledged his influence.
