Locke, Richard Adams (1800-1871) America-born writer and descendant of the philosopher John Locke, who studied at the University of Cambridge before returning to the United States and pursuing a career in journalism. In 1835 he joined the New York Sun and subsequently perpetrated the infamous "Moon Hoax".
