pharmacology
The study of drugs, their chemistry, mode of action, routes of absorption, excretion and metabolism, drug interactions, toxicity, and side-effects. New drugs, based on older drugs, traditional remedies, chance observations, etc., are tested for safety and efficacy, and manufactured by the pharmaceutical industry. The dispensing of drugs is pharmacy. Drug prescription is the cornerstone of the medical treatment of disease.
